Dear Jeff:
Please feel free to share this letter with whoever may benefit from it.
Sliding into debt for me was a gradual process. For years I juggled the bills,
living from pay check to pay check. Yes, I was also living on
credit cards which became my financial downfall. Before I knew it, I could not keep
up with paying the bills, especially the credit cards with growing interest rates. I tried going
through a credit counseling service and was able to keep up with the high payments for a year.
Then my husband lost his job and I no longer had the option of paying them. Thus, the sliding
process of indebtedness was now a scary free fall.
Being in debt took a physical and mental toll on my body. When I came home
from work, many days I would go to bed without eating supper and stay there until morning.
Sometimes I would wake up in a panic, wondering what creditor would be calling me today. I
didn’t want anyone to know because I was embarrassed, thinking that people would think less of
me. Hiding this shame that I felt was making me physically and mentally sick.
Then, I met Jeff through Church and he showed me The Mortgage Survival Guide.
He and his wife are truly some of the most compassionate people I have ever met in my life.
I explained my debt problems to him and I was honestly surprised with how respectfully he treated me.
Unfortunately, I started believing the disrespectful voices of the bill collectors on the other
end of the phone thatmade me feel I was not worth being respected. Thank you Jeff for truly caring
for people enough to write a book about financial difficulties.
The Mortgage Survival Guide is a practical “survival guide,”
full of organizational tools for people like me. Even though my problem was not losing my home,
financial problems are financial problems. Thus, TMSG guided me into KNOWING where my
money was going. Nothing can change for the better if you don’t know where the problems
